Fermi Football

Coach Welkley begins his third season as the man in charge of the Falcons football team. Welkley continues to restore pride in the Falcons program as their numbers and success rate continues to grow.

Welkley played defensive line at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA in the late 1980's. Currently Coach Welkley works in the special education department at Avon High School. Welkley is also an assistant wrestling coach at Avon and the head girls golf coach.

     Offensive Line

Coach Mazzone begins his fourth season at Fermi High School as the offensive and defensive line coach.

Mazzone also played his football in Enfield, but for the cross-town rival Enfield Raiders. He was a captain and team MVP on the 1999 7-2-1 Raider team. He was also an all-state nominee and two time lineman of the year.

Mazzone is an 04' graduate of Westfield State College where he played defensive line for the Owls. He was a member of the 01' NEFC Champions and the three time Bogan Division champions. He is currently an English teacher at Fermi High and assistant coach on the baseball team.

Mazzone also spent one season each coaching at Enfield and Ellington high schools.

Coach Wanzer begins his 5th season as the senior member of the Fermi coaching staff. Wanzer, a former Falcon (class of 97) continues to restore the pride in the Falcon defense. As an all-conference lineman in 1996, Wanzer brings a fire and passion to the defense that he was once a part of.

  This season marks the first season that Coach Wanzer will be working with the running backs and he will continue his work with the linebackers. Wanzer is a 01 graduate of Westfield State College, where he also played football in 1997. He is currently a history teacher at our rival Enfield High School.

Defensive Backs/Receivers

Coach Lafrance begins his coaching career at his alma mater. Lafrance was an offensive and defensive lineman for the Falcons in the late 1990's. He starred alongside Coach Russell.

Lafrance, a 1999 Fermi High graduate, joined the Air Force in 2002 and is still enlisted. He is a veteran of the ongoing war in Iraq. He is currently pursuing a degree in Education from Westfield State.
